As the name suggest, Intelligent Whale, A Submarine indeed speaks about human intelligence that created it. Intelligent Whale, A Submarine is actually an experimental submarine which was built in the city of Newark in New Jersey during the Civil war in 1863. The submarine was built based on a design made by Augustus price and Cornelius S. Bushnell and was sold to the United States Navy Department in the year 1869. In the year 1872 a trial was held by the navy department but as it was unsuccessful, the project was abandoned.
The structure of Intelligent Whale, A Submarine is unique. The 30 feet long and 46 tons Intelligent Whale is actually a hand crank submarine that was built by a dozen of men. Intelligent Whale, A Submarine is made up of strong iron plates that were bolted together and looks like a rugby ball.
The history of Intelligent Whale, A Submarine is however not very colorful. When the US Navy conducted its test, Intelligent Whale, A Submarine leaked so badly that the the department refused to pay the reminder of the bill to its owner. That is the reason why Intelligent Whale: A Submarine is said to be a flop project and for nearly 100 years it was displayed at the outdoor of Brooklyn Navy yard.
It was only in th year 1999 that Intelligent Whale, A Submarine was shifted to the vehicle display building of National Guard Militia Museum in New Jersey. You would find the Intelligent Whale, A Submarine flanked by a tank and jeeps at the back corner of the building.
