The Fort Mott State Park is located within the compound of Fort Mott and consists various specimens and memorials of the American Civil war. Fort Mott, the major attraction of the state park is actually a three-fort defense system that was designed for Delaware River during the modernization period. Fort Mott served as a military base camp during the American Civil War and was acquired by New Jersey in the year 1947. Fort Mott State Park was opened for the public in the year 1951 and is now maintained by New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry.
Fort Mott State Park covers a huge area of 104 cares and you would find its gate on the Fort Mott Road. As you enter Fort Mott State Park the first thing that would attract your eyes and mind is long and beautiful walking trail. You would surely enjoy the scenic beauty that the trail offers. Another major attraction of Fort Mott State Park is the beautiful and historic lighthouse that you would find just outside Fort Mott. The tower of the lighthouse was constructed in Buffalo, New York and was carried here by freight train and mule-drawn wagons in the year 1876. The tower is 115 feet tall and consists 1,50,000 candlepower kerosine vapor light.
Fort Mott State Park also serves as a very popular venue for picnics. There are aplenty of picnic areas and things like picnic tables and shelters are available. But for enjoying picnic at Fort Mott State Park you need to reserve your area at least one month before the program.
