Railroads in New Jersey

Railroads in New Jersey is an important and fast mode of transportation. It will not be wrong to say that railroads in New Jersey is the most convenient mode of transportation. They are used both by tourists as well as local inhabitants.

Some of the noteworthy railroads in New Jersey are as follows:

The Central Railroad of New Jersey: This main railroad consists of 2 subsidiary railroads- Somerville and Easton Railroad and Elizabethtown and Somerville Railroad. It was set up in the 19th century. It is both a passenger and cargo train. It covers the entire area of New Jersey to Pennsylvania.

Belvidere and Delaware River Railway: The Belvidere and Delaware River Railway was founded in the year 1995 and is one of the most important railroads in New Jersey. It is owned by the Black River Railroad System. It serves all the cities that lie along river Delaware, like New Jersey, Phillipsburg and Pennsylvania, Milford and Easton. It is basically a freight mail.

Winchester and Western Railroad: The Winchester and Western Railroad connects the important cities of Virginia, Winchester, Hagerstown, Eastern Panhandle, Winchester, West Virginia, Gore and Maryland.

Consolidated Rail Corporation: All the important northeast railway companies got together to form the Consolidated Rail Corporation. This railroad was formed in the year 1976.

Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority: This is one of the most important railroads in New Jersey. Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority is a multi-modal transportation system for the public. Apart from railway, it has other modes of transportation like light rail, subway, electric trolley bus, elevated rail and regional rail. It serves nearly 3.8 million passengers annually.
