At present the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey has undertaken a seaport renovation program involving $1 billion. Efforts are being made to increase the depth of the berths and channels of the harbor, in order to make the seaports, New Jersey the best in the world. High capacity cranes will be installed and the infrastructure of the port is being improved. It has also been taken into consideration to use environmentally friendly machinery. It is hoped that on the completion of the program, the seaport in New Jersey will become the most cost-effective and efficient seaport in the world. It will be able to successfully put an end to the greatest port problems- port congestion.
